The Transportation Architecture and Planning Research Center
The transportation Architecture and Planning Research Center of Southwest Jiaotong University (Institute of Transportation Architecture and Built Environmental Design) is established based on multiple departments of the School of Architecture and Design. The academic leader of the Institute is Professor Shen Zhongwei, and the director is Professor Yu Yang. The research directions of the Institute mainly include: (1) Future-oriented transportation complex design: in view of China’s rapid development of diversified comprehensive transportation system and the integration of Station City relationship in the future, we study the traffic flow organization method of the transportation complex, the optimization design method of the composition space, and the efficient connection and transfer mode of multiple transportation modes that adapt to China’s characteristics and management mode of passenger flow. (2) Urban transportation planning and land use: Based on the perspective of urban spatial system planning, we study the mechanism of urban land use and transportation system, puts forward the key technical methods to optimize the layout of urban spatial structure and integrate urban land resources, so as to realize the coordination and unification of urban land use and transportation system. (3) Theory and method of urban design in traffic station area: we construct the methods and theoretical basis of space design of traffic station area, and study the integrated design mode of ground and underground, the accessibility mode of pedestrian traffic network, and the intelligent design mode.
Research Center of Ecological and Sustainable development in Landscape Architecture
The Ecological and Sustainable development in Landscape Architecture Research Center (ESLA) is jointly constructed by professors and experts from multi-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary fields, young teachers, graduate students, and industry experts from joint training units. ESLA thoroughly implements China's green development ecological strategy, closely combines with the regional environmental characteristics of Western China, undertakes a series of target tasks and research topics in academic research, personnel training, social services, and other aspects, and has achieved rich scientific research achievements and good social reputation. In the past decade, ESLA has closely combined with the rich natural and cultural resources in Western China，as well as the urban and rural landscape development opportunities under the background of Park City practice in Chengdu. It has carried out more than 30 national, provincial, and ministerial critical scientific research projects. Its research team has published a number of high-level scientific papers in journals such as International Journal of Biomeology (SCI), Advances in Meteorology (SCI), Journal of Southwest Jiaotong University (NATURAL SCIENCE EDITION), China Water Supply and Drainage (CSCD), Chinese Landscape Architecture, Landscape Architecture and other journals.
While continuing to promote scientific research, ESLA pays attention to the combination of scientific research results and urban-rural environmental construction practice and actively participates in various social services. In 2019, ESLA and Sichuan Provincial Architectural Design And Research Institute jointly got the "National Demonstration, Joint Training Base for Graduate Students Majoring in Landscape Architecture" approved. ESLA also fully cooperates with the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Sichuan Province, the Natural Resources Department of Sichuan Province, and the Chengdu Park City Development Research Institute. Its research team has participated in the formulation and application of several local landscape architecture construction regulations. This cases, including the Construction Standards of Greenway in Sichuan Province, the Acceptance and Handover Standards of Urban Greening Projects in Sichuan Province, the Application Planning of Urban Greening Tree Species and Common Plants in Chengdu, and the National Demonstration Park for Integrated Development of Rural Industries, etc., have realized the high-efficiency transformation of scientific research achievements.
World Heritage Research Center (WHRC)
On December 2016, the Southwest Jiaotong University and the Politecnico di Milano, Italy jointly establish the Southwest Jiaotong University- Politecnico di Milano Joint-Research Centre of World Heritage, also known as the International Centre for Research on World Heritage, Southwest Jiaotong University (ICRWH-SWJTU).The two parties collaborate efforts in devoting to the protection of world heritage, the research work in the related domain, the development of personnel talent, and the associate education industry.
This center is positioned in affiliation to the School of Architecture and Design, Southwest Jiaotong University, to be an inter-discipline and international scientific research and education platform that is public-accessible and social-orientated. The ICRWH-SWJTU actively contributes to the scientific research and the protection of the world heritages
